Did you know Ethiopia is currently in the year 2017?

Happy Wednesday, Triblings

Did you know that Ethiopia is the only African country never colonized and that it’s currently in the year 2017, according to its ancient calendar?

That kind of difference isn’t just historical, it’s visionary. It reminds us that Africa has always held its timelines, technologies, and truths, long before the world caught up.

This week, we’re spotlighting Zelalem, an Ethiopian entrepreneur building with depth and direction. And we’re unveiling Echoes of Destiny, a gripping tale of friendship, sacrifice, and the fight to save a village from ancient evil..

TAFRO Feature – African Trailblazer: Zelalem Nigatu

Zelalem Nigatu is an entrepreneur from Ethiopia who is helping to solve the country's e-waste problems.

He started his career working with a UK-based group that gave refurbished computers to schools and health centers. Later, he moved into the solar energy industry, where he spent nearly 15 years helping distribute over 200,000 solar home systems across Ethiopia. But over time, many of these systems stopped working and were left unused in homes, warehouses, and backyards.

Zelalem saw an opportunity where others saw waste. He launched Inter Ethiopia Solutions, a company that collects, repairs, and reuses old solar systems and lithium batteries.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many international companies pulled out of Ethiopia, Zelalem didn’t wait around. He started testing different business ideas he could build with limited resources, including clean cookstoves, virtual assistant services, and e-waste solutions. Some worked, others didn’t, but he kept moving.

Zelalem believes African entrepreneurs should think big and not limit themselves. In his words, We have to stop thinking small. Africa has space for big dreams, we have to build them.”

The ban is so strict that travelers entering Rwanda must leave plastic bags behind at the airport. And just last month,...

TAFRO Feature Issue #14 Digifarms Africa: How Bruno is Transforming African Farming Happy Wednesday, Triblings Long before modern technology arrived, agriculture was the heartbeat of African life. Our forefathers tilled the land, exported cocoa to Europe, and helped make Africa one of the top producers of rubber and cassava. Farming was more than work, it was survival, trade, and community. And all of this happened long before GMOs were ever introduced. Today, that story is evolving. We’re...
