How Clara Mwenda Turned Clay into a Sustainable Goldmine

Happy Wednesday, Triblings

We know African stories go way deeper than headlines. That’s why we do this to show what it really looks like when people build, dream, and keep culture alive.

This week, meet Clara Mwenda, a creative force from Zambia who started with one flower pot and grew an award-winning business. Then, test your knowledge in our Afrobeat Quiz — a fun way to explore one of the continent’s most powerful music movements.

Let’s get into it.

TAFRO Feature – African Trailblazer: Clara Mwenda

Clara Mwenda is an award-winning business owner and respected community leader from Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. She started her business, Rustic Flower Pot, after spotting a plant in a pot she didn’t like. When she couldn’t find anything better in town, she decided to make her own. What started as a Do-it-Yourself moment became a full-on movement.

Today, Clara’s handmade pots are loved across Zambia, with over 18 corporate collaborations. In 2024, she was awarded Best Upcoming Youth Entrepreneur by the Zambian government.

Clara has a big dream beyond entrepreneurship; she wants to become a leader in Zambia and show young girls that, despite difficult starts, they can achieve greatness with grace and love. She believes it's important to prove you can succeed elegantly and inspire others to do the same.

As someone from the Senga tribe in Zambia, Clara is proud of their traditional Chiswala ceremony, where a bull is sacrificed and the chief eats a special blood paste symbolizing strength and leadership

TAFRO Feature Issue #14 Digifarms Africa: How Bruno is Transforming African Farming Happy Wednesday, Triblings Long before modern technology arrived, agriculture was the heartbeat of African life. And all of this happened long before GMOs were ever introduced. Today, that story is evolving. We’re...
